5 Rules for Success and how you can best make them work for yourself!

"Just remember, you can’t climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets" - Arnold Schwarzenegger

On his recent tour to Australia, Arnold Schwarzenegger presented his unique 5 Rules to Success.

Here is the condensed version of his 1 1/2 hour long talk. Now you can also watch his full presentation here to discover what made him so successful.

Rule 1: Find Your Vision And Follow It -

You must have a clear vision & goals, go for them and pursue them relentlessly. Otherwise you will just drift around aimlessly and end up absolutely hating your job like around 74% of all Americans do. Those figure would apply to other countries as well.

When things get tough, and undoubtedly they will get tough, it your vision that will see you through. See the finished outcome of your vision. Discover your vision and the rest will fall in place.

Rule 2: Never Ever Think Small

When Arnold first arrived in America looking for parts in movies he was told that he needed to change his name, change his body, and change the very thick accent. But he never listened, he went out and took accent classes, acting classes, he kept working out and kept trying for those leading parts. Those obstacles that initially stood in his way have now become his greatest assets.

Most of us are simply afraid of failing and as a result aim way too low, setting impotent and uninspiring goals. You know what though? You’re never ever considered a failure unless you don’t get up when you fall. So simply keep going, dream big goals and take risks. You will find that the greater the risks, the greater your rewards, so when you’re not afraid to fail then anything becomes possible.

Rule 3: Ignore the Naysayers –

In life you will find that people; usually friends or relative and they will have the best of intentions well, telling you that, ‘It can’t be done’, ‘It’s impossible’ or just simply say no.

Nelson Mandela said, ‘It’s always impossible until someone does it.’ Remember when they tried breaking the 4 Minute Mile and Roger Bannister who went out and did it.

You only ever want to listen to and follow your vision and not the ‘You cant’s’. And if you do happen to have a fall simply dust yourself off and say,

‘I’ll be back!’

Rule 4: Work Your Ass Off -

Work, Work and then some more hard Work. It’s hard ‘yakka’ and there are simply no short cuts, no-one stumbles into success by accident. Arnold Schwarzenegger won the title of Mr Universe at the age of 23 and he still holds the title for the youngest ever to win it, so he knows all about hard work.

Muhammad Ali, when asked how many sit-ups he does, responded, ‘I don’t know, I only start counting when it starts burning. When it starts burning is when it starts counting.’

When Chuck Norris was asked how many push ups he does, he said, ‘All of them’ (tongue in cheek)

If you don’t apply this rule; Work Your Ass Off, then all the other rules become meaningless. Today you have 24 hours. You sleep 6 and have left. Some say, ‘but I sleep 8 hours’. But Arnie responds, ‘Just sleep faster.'

Ted Turner; a successful Entrepreneur said, ‘Early to Bed and Early to Rise, Work Like Hell and Advertise’

,b>Rule 5. Don’t Just Take, Give Something Back -

That’s the very reason he became the 'Governator' of California: he wanted to give something back to all those who had given him so much. As Arnie says: the heart doesn’t just pump blood, it pumps compassion, courage and caring.

Now leave your mark and give something back, do something for your community, your country, for someone else. You must serve a cause greater than self, because in the end we will be judged not by how much we made, but by how much we gave.

Bonus Rule: Break the rules -

We have too many rules in life about everything. I say break the rules, not the law, but break the rules. Arnie's wife has a t-shirt that says, “Well-behaved women rarely make history.” Well, you know, I don’t want to burst her bubble, but the same is true with men.

It is impossible to be a maverick or a true original if you’re too well behaved and don’t want to break the rules. Think outside the box, that’s what I believe. After all, what's the point of being on this earth if all you want to do is be liked by everyone and avoid trouble?

So get to the chopper and use Arnie’s rules to success in your life.
