Lou's Clues for a Healthier You

Are you jeopardizing your health with your food choices?

The age old saying "you are what you eat" has never been truer than it is today. In the back of our minds we all know that it takes food to nourish our bodies and keep us healthy, and we know that certain foods are best for renewing our bodies, providing strength and energy

Did you know that---

* Germ fighting white blood cells live 60 days before they're replaced by new ones

* Red blood cells survive only 120 days

* The skin on the back of your hands will replace itself every 4 days with entirely new skin

* Scalp hair grows an average of an inch every four to six weeks

Your body is continually regenerating itself and you don't even know it. Nutritionists and anti-aging Doctors have know this for years. Would you like to learn how to----

* Better protect your body against aging and disease with antioxidant rich foods

* Enhance your body's natural defense system

* Attain a night of more restful and restorative sleep

* Slim down without radical dieting. Then Read on-----

Foods to Enhance Your Health

Doctors and Nutritionists have been making important discoveries regarding nutrients and aging over the past several years. The number one key to cellular regeneration are antioxidants. The more antioxidants you consume the more effective you can be in protecting against vision problems, memory loss, wrinkles and the brown pigmentation spots that occur with advancing birthdays.

After testing hundreds of foods, nutritionists at the USDA have comprised the following list of the top antioxidant rich foods.

Small red beans Black beans Pecans

Blueberries Prunes Walnuts

Red kidney beans Raspberries Hazelnuts

Pinto beans Strawberries Sweet cherries

Cranberries Red Delicious apples Back plums

Artichokes Granny Smith apples Russet potatoes

Blackberries Gala apples

One of the easiest ways to improve your over-all health and remain youthful and energetic is by eating antioxidants. But remember, when you are in the produce section of you supermarket bigger and prettier isn't necessarily better. Often the best looking produce has been grown in soil stripped of nutrients and loaded with pesticides which can damage your health. Whenever possible purchase organic produce since they are grown without pesticides and in soil that has not been stripped of nutrients.

Organic produce retains more antioxidants. Organic fruits and vegetables have 50% more antioxidants than those grown conventionally with pesticides and herbicides., and they contain a higher nutrient content.

If organic isn't an option in you local shopping area or is cost prohibitive that doesn't mean you have to do without. You simply was your fruits and vegetables with Distilled Water ONLY

Studies show that distilled water removes pesticides just as effectively as those expensive product washes that are available on store shelves.

The Power of Protein

The importance of protein can not be over-emphasized. It is a major building block in repairing muscle and growing tissue and an important part of the healing process. It also regulates hormones and metabolism and even defends against illness. Numerous studies have shown that protein deficiency is directly linked to immune malfunction and disease and could put you at risk. It is estimated that the in the age category over 60 one in three people are protein deficient. In studies conducted at Tufts University, anti-aging doctors advised adults over 55 to eat about 0.45 grams of lean protein per pound of body weight.

I'm sure you have heard that it is important to cut down on saturated fat in red meat, and that is true, but do not cut back on protein. Go ahead and eat that hamburger or small steak occasionally but on a daily basis eat protein rich foods that are not high in saturated fat. Your best sources are:

Eggs They are low-cost, high-quality protein providing 5.5 grams in one egg with only 68 calories.

Don't worry about the cholesterol either. Studies show one to two eggs a day does not raise cholesterol.

Fish They contain 29 mg of lean protein, and an incredible 80% of it is utilized by the body.

They are also rich in health fatty acids that your body needs to regenerate cells but can't

make on its own.

Foods That Make You Sick

Foods that are processed or high in refined sugar ay taste good and fill you up, but they have the least amount of nutritional value. Your body has no choice but to make the best cells, tissues and organs in can with them and the best is not very good.

If you limit yourself to nutritionally deficient food, the body actually dies in stages at the cellular level. As an example, the mitochondria, which generate energy for cell, will fail. When your cells have no energy, you have no energy.

Study after study has shown that a diet high in sugary, processed foods makes us grow fat, causes diabetes and heart disease. Doctors agree that one of the best things you can do for your health and longevity is to replace refined sugar and processed foods in your diet with whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Foods from each of these three categories have not only been linked to good health, but to natural healing powers for literally hundreds of common health problems.

The Healing Power of Foods

Hippocrates, "The Father of Medicine" would be in great distress over hospital's reliance on synthetic drugs for treating symptoms of illness instead of addressing the cause. Hippocrates discovered that we don't "catch" a chronic illness. Instead, it grows out of pollution, refined and chemical laden foods and stressful living habits. Perhaps best known for saying "let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food"

Hippocrates was the first to fully study foods that have the power to heal the body of everything from pain to heart disease.
