Playing snooker can be both satisfying and frustrating. Those guys on the TV make it look so easy. What is their secret? How do they do it?
I once read somewhere that ?The secret of Success is the Absence of failure?.
Nowhere can this be so easily seen as in the game of snooker. Failure to pot the ball means you have to sit down, your out, kaput. You may not even get another shot. On the other hand, pot the ball and your in, your away, your scoring points, you get another go, your opponent can do nothing to stop you. You are in control.
It really is as simple as that. If we keep practising our ball potting we will continue to get better and better. Our ?Absence of failure? will increase and we will begin to win more games. It seems to me that too much emphasis is put on 'Controlling' the white ball. Of course you need to be able to cue straight and understand the basics of white ball control, but the best white ball control in the world is not going to help you unless you can pot the balls.
Can we compete for example at Club level? Of course we can. But as you get higher up the ?Success? scale, it becomes harder as people with a more natural talent dominate the game.
These simple insights can be used to help you rocket your way to success. Think about it, if you keep your eye on the ball, cue straight, and pot the ball, you will become a winner. This principle can be applied to all aspects of our life. Instead of doing the simple things that will increase our chances of success, we spend far too much time looking for ?hidden secrets?.
Leave the advanced 'Cue Ball' control to those with true natural talent. You will still win many more games than you lose just by simply potting the ball.
