The Look

The HTC Magic comes in a very sleek design that rivals that of other mobile phones today. It certainly grabs attention from people and even with a plastic shell; the mobile phone feels solid when held. Another benefit of this phone is its weight, which is very light (although some might wish it to be a bit heavier since making it too light might make it appear cheaper than it should). It is also thinner than the HTC Dream, its predecessor, and the trademark “chin” was retained to allow the screen to have some level of protection when dropped. But the “chin” is now more of a gentle curve to allow it to sit nicely in the palm of your hand.

Overall, the look is as eye catching as most other phones are, which is definetly a positive.

The System and Other Features

The HTC Magic is powered by the Android operating system and is already pre-installed with software that allows for access to Google services that include Gmail, Google Maps, Youtube and Google Search.

Its interface has also been upgraded to a more stylish look. It allows a person to swipe for right to left with ease, dragging icons around the screen by merely long-pressing them (they can even delete these icons easily by dragging them to the bottom of the screen where the garbage bin is found).

It now also comes with an onscreen keyboard, a Home key, a Back key, a Menu Key, Search Key, Call and End buttons and a trackball, which provides enough navigation capabilities and extremely easy to use with one hand.

It also features a 3.2 megapixel camera that has great imaging capabilities, and video capture. And with the brightly lit touch screen, photos are vivid and have a crisp quality to them.

The HTC Magic is also equipped with a new WebKit browser engine as well as a JavaScript engine that can provide a richer and more pleasing browsing experience. The browser also comes a very efficient and useful book marking system. The mobile phone also supports Wi-Fi connectivity, and Bluetooth.

Overall

Overall, the HTC Magic is a very good smartphone, a definite upgrade from it predecessors but it does still have a few flaws. It does not have out-of-the-box MS Exchange support as well as a 3.5 mm headphone jack that should be the standard for all smartphones. There is also no video call camera, and USB connectivity with a Mac or a PC takes time to get used to. All in all, the mobile phone from HTC is not a perfect phone but it is still worth considering when shopping for a new smartphone.

If you are looking to purchase the HTC Magic then Moby1 is well worth a visit. They compare mobile phone deals from a wide range of online retailers. They also Compare mobile broadband ensuring you are always connected.
