After years of hard work and savings, you’re finally ready – that dream car is within your grasp. Now, all you have to do is find it. Cue the Bond soundtrack…

Of course, it’s not that complicated to find and buy your dream car, but there are some things you’ll need to consider before you sign on the dotted line. Read on for more information.

First, do you have a place to keep your dream car? You’ll want more than a car cover in the driveway to protect your baby. Fortunately, there are many options in the free standing building market that will provide a sturdy, safe place to protect your car from the elements and other threats. Any of the larger home and garden centers will not only have plenty of large sheds to choose from, most will deliver and assemble them on your property for a nominal fee.

So now you’ve got the shelter, but how do you find the car? That depends. Are you dreaming about the newest model sports car or a classic roadster? The former is a bit easier to locate than the latter, but not quite as much fun. To start, look for the closest dealer for your dream car and head on over – they’ll walk you through each step of the buying process.

But for a classic car, the hunt can be as much fun as the car. You can start with the local car clubs. Look around – they’ll have ads out announcing their next meetings. They aren’t, generally speaking, a shy bunch, so you can go right up and tell them what you’re looking for. They may have one ready for sale or know a friend of a friend that’s looking to unload exactly what you want.

Then, if that doesn’t pan out, head to the local auto sales papers. Any of the larger auto parts stores will have copies for sale and many grocery stores do as well. Flip back to the classic ads and see if your dream car is waiting there for you.

Begin with these local options, because this will simplify the transportation arrangements if you’re lucky enough to find your car right away. Your dream car may begin as a rebuild and it may not be road-worthy when you get it – it may have to be towed home before you can begin phase two.

If what you want isn’t available in your local area, it’s time to go to the internet. There are internet auctions that specialize in cars and even the major auction sites have auto sections. But again, use the local options when you can. Most internet sites offer searches that can be limited by distance from you, which will make the delivery of the car much easier.

Finally, once you’ve found your dream car and are ready to buy, how do you pay for it? Let the seller guide you. They may want some form of guaranteed payment, like a cashier’s check, or they may accept a credit card. The internet standard Paypal may be another option. Be sure to ask what the seller is most comfortable with before you finalize the deal, especially if you’re using an internet source where the potential for fraud can be high.
