He had so much patience. Knowing I didn't particularly like to handle the worms, he would always bait the hook for me. I loved those mornings. Even if we didn't get good hits, just peacefully sitting in the wooden john boat, watching the rippling water, and knowing he cared enough to teach me how to fish was enough for any young girl. I've carried the desire to fish all my life since those wonderful memories from years ago.
One of the times I was on a consulting deal, with investors in the room, the owner of the consulting company introduced me and said, "She fishes!" In my three-piece suit and trying to convey the utmost in professionalism, I guess they weren't quite sure whether she was telling a joke or it was for real that I had such a passion for fishing!
I wish I'd told him before he passed just how much he gave me in those quiet mornings, memories which would last forever.
