Many people who run or walk for regular exercise realize after a while that they are not quite satisfied with their workout routine. Maybe it's boredom, maybe their joints are aching from the pounding they take. Whatever the reason, many people turn to buying a treadmill and working out on it. Having a home treadmill to work out on is more convenient and less expensive than a gym membership, and it's much nicer to work out in the privacy of your own home, especially in the winter months.

It is no longer difficult to afford to buy a treadmill for the home. The competition between the many manufacturers have brought prices down, plus there are great specials being constantly offered online.

Before you buy a specific treamill machine, make sure to answer these questions for yourself.

1) Where are you going to store it? Do you have enough room for the specific model you are considering? Does it fold down for easy storage? Find out the dimensions of the treadmill and make sure there is adequate room for you to use it safely and comfortably.

2) What are the people who own this machine saying about it? Make sure to read consumer reports and expert reviews of the model you are looking at. They are all over the internet. Visit large, reputable ecommerce sites like Buy.com and Amazon.com. There will be legitimate reviews there.

3) Does the treadmill have adequate incline settings? Some treadmills even have decline settings to allow you to work different muscles.

4) Does it come with pre set workout routines? One of the best features a treadmill can come with is a pre programmed workout designed to push you and allow you to get the most benefit from you workout. Also, it keeps you from getting bored. This feature is found on a lot of models and used to be somewhat expensive, but no longer is.
