There was I, sailing along, at the age of thirty four, having had hardly a day's malady in my life, when I abruptly felt bad pain sensations in my neck and lower back. Merely a glitch, thought I, obtain some heat treatment cream and that will fix it. Wrong! So I go and pay an infrequent visit to my doc and he states I have Ankylosing Spondylitis. As he did not seem too concerned about it I did not think much of it, but it turned out to constitute a life changing diagnosis.
Ankylosing Spondylitis, for those that do not know is one of the many strains of arthritis and can hit both men and females. I did not take it too seriously as I was still quite able to go about my day-to-day business and I associated arthritis with being disabled and possessing deformed hands etc. It reveals how ignorant I was at that time in regards to rheumatic or arthritic complaints.
So my Dr. prescribes special tablets, which in all honesty were not much use and I return to same doc and he prescribes some different pills, again not very much use. This goes on for several years, some tablets being stronger than others, but none of them really getting rid off the pain sensation. And then, after suffering variable degrees of pain for nearly 15 years I at last found something which is a better painkiller for my complaint than any drug.
Enter the Tens Machine.
These simple machines come in several models, but they all operate by emitting small electrical pulses of variable intensity level through pads put on the body which cut the pain sensation signals being sent to the brain. These electrical pulses also increase the production of the body's innate painkillers named endorphins.
The tens machine model I have was fairly cheap to purchase, and is low-cost to run. The primary cost, being the replenishment of the pads as they only have a limited life. Ok, so it's not a cure, but if it disguises the pain sensation and aids me slumber at night, I'm happy. These simple machines, apparently, may provide respite for all kinds of muscular and joint pain. I can't guarantee that it will work for your specific ailment, but it is definitely worth a crack. I wish I had found Tens Machines years ago.
