A stay at home mom has to introduce the kids to nature and also make them respect her. The best way is to start a Nature Walk. This is an outing that mom and kids will enjoy together and equally. We are living in a materialistic world which is, to a large extent, making us spend our time indoors. The reason is that all of us are engaged in activities that need us to stay in our offices for long periods of time. Upon coming back home, we tend to get inside our homes and lock ourselves from the outer world. We prefer television to outdoor activities. As a result, we have lost touch with nature and have lost the sense of wonder for the natural surroundings around us. The kids follow suit.
Instead of limiting ourselves to a close environment, it is a better option to take kids for daily nature walks. It is a great exercise, gives you fresh air to breathe in and as a bonus you get in touch with a nourishing nature. You can start the getting in touch with nature through a walk in your local park. It offers an ample opportunity to see how nature grows, how flowers smell, how the petals feel and how the wind sings through the trees. In short, it will be a way to get back in touch with nature.
Apart from these experiences, the walkers get in touch with birds flying above their heads, birds resting in their nests, or a freshly hatched baby of a bird. An experience in seeing a mother bird feed her young ones is a priceless one. These experiences of seeing nature first hand instead of learning through websites, books or television about the habitat of different birds and animals are valuable for the growing kids.
Taking a walk in the open nature with a stream nearby will unveil many wonderful scenes like little fish darting into the water, or a huge dragonfly over the surface of water, sunlight dancing over waves of water and sparkling, sound of water flowing in the stream.
This nature walk could be somewhere close to a pasture. There you can see grazing cows or horses with their cool and easy way of munching at the grass. If you are lucky you might see a few foals or calves romping around and just lending their innocence to the surroundings.
This nature walk could also be somewhere close to a farm or a garden where you can see fresh vegetables right on the plants, fresh grain still on the ears of the crop and fresh fruits waiting to be plucked. With the owner’s permission, you can even bring home some fresh stuff for a snack or dinner. That will be a bonus with the walk.
You may change the scene every day, you may have different experiences every day, but one thing is certain, you will enjoy a different world every day. The five elements in all their glory, birds, animals, plants, animals all are waiting for you to explore them. It is not only a treat for your senses, it is also intellectually enriching, edifying, educating and instructing.
If you give this treat to your kids they are sure to enjoy it and they will bless you for this.
