So what is a Co-Registration Lead you ask? Co-reg leads are a kind of "pay per-subscriber" process that generates targeted leads for an e-zine. It does this by way of little ads placed on other sites that share the same target audience as yourself.

These little ads have an optional check box that readers can mark so they could automatically subscribe to the newsletter of your choice. Basically, its a subscription that benefits from another subscription located elsewhere, but within the same category. There are two ways that Co-reg leads work. Either the subscribers can be bartered for, or they may be purchased.

Say, for instance, somebody signs up with a free emailing service. Somewhere within that process, they're going to give you the option to subscribe to some newsletters, or to receive some kind of email update. Pretty simple right? That's how co-registration works, and its one of the easiest ways to build an opt-in list today. Its no wonder why so many people use e-newsletter publishers to generate targeted traffic for their web pages.

Another strategy involving bartering is to use popup windows. Many sites offer to supply a co-registration page as a kind of "pop up" or "pop-under" window. Every time a person clicks on your subscriber page, a little popup will appear. Once this window is closed, you'll have the option to select a newsletter that's displayed for visitors to subscribe to, and receive additional information. All it takes is marking a few check boxes and submitting your email address.

Get in touch with an array of publishers, who's main visitors share interests similar to yours and ask for an "ad swap". An "ad swap" is an exchange of banners or links with a sister site, usually found on the "Thank You" page.

Co-registration programs usually have an MLM (multi-level marketing) base that requires people to sign up under your downline before you can earn attention to your Ezine on other sites. Of course, the more attention your site receives, the higher your chances are of getting new people to join you.

After reading on, you'll have a better idea of how you can use Co-reg at your disposal and hopefully, be able to:

- quickly grow your email newsletter readership

- make your subscriber's list bigger

- get your page the exposure it deserves

- dramatically increase the number of subscribers with little effort

Gathering Prospects:

Alright, so let's say you're actively seeking out people that are interested in gaining more info about your particular niche market. And after a little research, you come across a web site that offers relevant information of interest concerning your niche; whom also has a page designed for people to subscribe to get additional information.

A) Opt Out leads

These leads are gained through an email process that assumes inclusion. Often times having "Yes" already checked on a signup form, and may also add a person's name to some sort of list. These are usually the most inexpensive leads if purchased, and that's because they bring in responses that are very passive in their process. As long as the visitor has made a request for any kind of info, it'll be considered a lead. Do keep in mind though, that a lot of folks out there don't realize that the little box is already checked before they continue and tend to subscribe by accident. In other words, they end up receiving "spam", and may end up with a bunch of complaints about it.

These are the low quality leads that are usually not very fit for co-registration lists. Consider who your target audience is, and decide whether or not this method will benefit you more than it does damage for your big idea.

B) Single Opt In leads

Pretty much the same as the previous method, but your box is un-checked by default. This means that in order for a visitor to qualify as a lead, that person would have to consciously check the box located next to your listing. Which is, in theory, slightly more difficult to obtain, yet is way more targeted, because it is "permission-based" marketing, and isn't considered spam since the individual requests to be contacted by providing some initial information first.

The best kind of opt-in leads are ones that provide you with the time, date, and IP address from each request so you are able to prove your leads were gained in a legal fashion.

C) Double Opt In leads

Double Opt-In leads are the same as single, only once someone checks the box and asks for more info, they are then shot an automated e-mail message that will confirm their interest by requiring them to click on an additional link to activate their request. This is particularly useful for prospects that have forgotten that they had opted to get something, and ultimately eliminate spam complaints.

However, because it has an additional step to it's process, about 50% of these leads tend to not be complete, whether its intentional of those being contacted or not. But on the bright side, it makes these leads much more expensive than Opt-Ins or Opt-Outs because they're a bit more promising and considered highly targeted eye balls.

Please take into consideration that using either A or B can be hazardous if someone were to take the information initially gained, and Opt-In their lists without those people ever knowing it. Option C provides more protection against this kind of thing and is especially useful if you are offering a viewer confidential or adult-based information.

So think for a while about your business, and make a careful decision on what kinds of leads suit your cause the best.
