Everyone is looking for ways to save money nowadays thanks to the recent downturn in the economy. But since your children will only be young once, you don't need to sacrifice everything! Give them plenty of memories by making a yearly vacation a family tradition; and what better place to go than Orlando, Florida? Orlando is a family paradise, but it needn't cost an arm and a leg to enjoy it. Here are some ways to save money on your next Orlando family vacation.

-- Take a good, hard luck on where you choose to stay. It may seem attractive to stay at one of the theme park hotels, but doing so can seem like flushing money down the toilet since it's hard to justify spending all that cash just to sleep! There are plenty of amazing, well-managed and kept homes in the Orlando area that are specifically used as family vacation rentals. A beautiful, 4-bedroom, 2 bathroom home within easy distance of the resorts can cost as little as $100 a night and will accommodate up to 10 people! If you are traveling in a group, splitting the rental costs means saving even bigger money.

-- Renting a vacation home will not only save money on hotel rooms, it will also save a fortune in food. The average family of four can easily spend $300 per diem for their meals in one of the theme parks, and that's not counting snacks! By having access to a kitchen right where you are staying, you can eat breakfast in-house and then pack lunches and snacks for everyone to eat throughout the day.

-- Beware of the hidden costs of drinks! A single theme park soda may cost up to $5, depending on its size: ouch. Because it's essential to stay well hydrated in the hot Florida sun, a better solution is for each person to carry his or her own refillable water bottle. Because it's difficult to walk around and go on rides with a large bottle, get the smallest kind: since it's refillable, it will work great.

-- It's perfectly OK to set strict limits on pricey souvenirs. Emphasize to your children that vacations are for making memories, and not for collecting junk. You may wish to limit each child to getting just one souvenir within a set price limit. You will virtually eliminate the "I wanna" syndrome and your wallet will thank you.
