Millions of internet searches are performed each day on the keywords ?working at home? and ?internet marketing?. Seems everyone wants to find a home business opportunity and earn a little extra cash. While working at home can definitely have its benefits, these business ventures are like any other, they'll require planning, work and dedication.

There are home based business opportunities advertised everywhere; some are legitimate and some are not. Working in E commerce or internet marketing is not so different from a traditional ?brick and mortar? venture; you'll need a good product or service, and a means of letting the public know what you have available. After you've decided what you'd like to market and selected your product or service, you'll need to develop a business plan to guide your efforts.

A good business plan can be a roadmap to success. It may seem like an unnecessary step to many, but a good plan can guide you through those crucial first few months and years of operation. The first step to developing your business plan is developing a mission statement. This statement will set the tone for your home business operations. What do you want to accomplish with your internet marketing business? What are the principles under which you'll operate? What impression do you want to make on your customers?

After stating what you'll do and why, the business plan should lay the ground work for the business operation. What will the internet marketing venture start up costs be? Including a start up plan will allow you to anticipate some of the ?surprises? that often crop up, give you an idea of the investment that will be required, and give you a solid base on which to build your business. It may seem like an extra step to many, but a well-thought out start up plan can help guide a new business owner through those crucial first months.

The next step in creating your business plan is to draft an operating budget. This step can be crucial for any business, but even more crucial for one being created on limited funds, as most home businesses are. Plan for usual business operating expenses and estimate your income for the first year. Not only will a budget keep you from over investing in your business, but it will give you concrete revenue goal to strive for. Home businesses can be easily forgotten in the rush of every day life, but setting a goal will help keep you focused and on track.

No home based business or internet marketing venture will be successful without an advertising plan. If you don't have a physical storefront, you can't count on walk in traffic, so you'll have to develop a plan for getting people to visit your virtual store. Plan what advertising you'd like to do, how much it should cost, and how much traffic it should generate. Again, setting the goal will help keep you on track.

A good business plan can help you navigate those first few months
Of working at home and keep you focused on your success!
