One of the most frequent questions I hear and see from budding information marketers is, what information products should I sell or promote on the internet? You always hear that you should sell stuff that you are passionate about or interested in. However not everyone has a passion or an interest or if you do it may be one that will not make money.
So in this article I am going to talk about 2 sites you can use to generate some ideas and research what information is selling well on the internet. You will have heard of both sites but maybe not thought of them as research tools.
Amazon.com
Amazon is a massive site which sells all kinds of products both physical and digital. Amazon is full of useful information you can use to research product ideas, such as they tell you what products are selling the most in any category, known as best sellers. They tell you what products customers purchased along with the item you are looking at, giving you some ideas for upsells or affiliate promotions. Amazon will also tell you what product visitors bought if they didn't buy the particular product you are looking at. This is all really powerful information.
Amazon categorize markets very well, if you spend some time going through the various categories you are bound to find something that interests you. Amazon also sells a product called a kindle which if you haven't heard of it is a wireless device for reading electronic books. You can check what books are being sold for the kindle this gives you ideas of what digital information products are doing well.
Clickbank.com
Next we have Clickbank they are another huge site that sells digital and membership products. Clickbank don't sell their own products they provide the platform and payment processing facilities for people to sell their own products online. Clickbank also makes it easy for affiliate marketers to promote the products clickbank sells meaning they have a large number of affiliates.
Clickbank is useful for research because they also let you see stats for each product being sold in their marketplace. If you go to clickbank, click marketplace in the main menu across the top of the screen. You can then select the category and sub category you wish to research. You can also search by keyword which is sometimes better because product owners don't always put their products in the relevant categories. By default the products will show by popularity, so this will tell you what products are selling well.
Together those two sites will give you some very valuable information. Spend some time looking around them and tie it in with some keyword research using Google adwords free keyword tool. I am sure you will generate a good list of potential niches to create a product in.
