A trip to the Grand Canyon had always been the ultimate family adventure as far as Bob and the seven other Jesters were concerned. He had made it his life's ambition to load everyone into the station wagon with enough cash to support a two weeks stay in hotels, and enough do it yourself upholstery cleaning product to ensure the safety of his beloved car. That station wagon was his pride and joy, and he entrusted the cleaning to Stanley Home Products and the driving to himself. He didn't know what was in store because he hadn't taken such an extended trip with seven other people before in his life.
That was in the days when millions of Americans were taking to the new interstate highway system dreamed up by Eisenhower and his boys after he had seen what they looked like in Germany during the war. The unfortunate end to this tale is that the twins made such a continuous mess in the back seat of the wagon that all of the samples of do it yourself upholstery cleaning products were used up before Bob had a chance to make any contacts. What with juice cans, and the car sickness, they all just wanted to get to the canyon and enjoy what was left of the vacation. The Grand Canyon turned out to be just a big hole in the ground, after a few impressive minutes, and so the whole brood went home with the same memory that countless other families have had when they load up for an exciting summer tour.
