Moisture problems or a musty odor in your basement

If you have a moisture problem or a musty odor in your basement,

house, rv or boat, consider our three step process to help eliminate

the moisture and the mold & mildew associated with it.

Step 1: Consider HOW the moisture is getting into your basement, house,

rv or boat and focus on trying to prevent moisture from entering your

living areas. Consider WHERE your downspoats are draining and make

sure they are draining away from your house at least 10 feet from

any part of your foundation. If you have underground drainage, make

sure it's not blocked with debris. You may need to have a professional

drainage expert examine your system. The key thing is making sure

the water is draining away from your house and not into it! If you

notice damp spots outside that remain soggy on the side of your house,

consider installing additional drainage to help elminate water from

this area. Water left standing will find the least resistant path.

Some additional information regarding the extension

of downspouts can be found here

Step 2: After you've determined WHERE the moisture is coming

from, it's now time to eradicate it from your living areas. We carry

two products that can help you. Dri-Z-Air products are designed

for small enclosed spaces and are non-electric dehumidifiers. Each

unit covers a 10 X 10 area. For larger areas, we reccomend the Goldenrod

Dehumidifier line. Goldenrods are electric but require no maintenance

and the largest unit can cover approximately 500 cubic feet. These

are great to basement moisture control because they work all year

long. Goldenrods are different than any other dehumidifier on the

market and require no maintenance once they are setup and plugged

in. They warm the air just enough to push the moisture out of the

living area. You can find Goldenrod & Dri-Z-Air products online

at our webstore. Click

here to goto our online ordering site.
The next step is to determine

the square footage of the area you wish to dehumidify.

Step 3: Once you've determined the sqaure footage of the

area you wish to dehumidify, consider the following:

1. Dri-Z-Air units are great for small enclosed spaces. Examples:

Closets, small store rooms, crawlspaces, areas WITHOUT electricity,

garages & attics. If you have several rooms in your basement,

consider purchasing 2-3 units per room, depending upon the square

footage. Each unit covers a 10 x 10 area.

2. For larger areas, consider purchasing a Goldenrod Dehumidifier. We carry

various sizes which cover as little as 200 cubic feet all the way up to 500

cubic feet. These are excellent for year around coverage and NO maintenance.
