Are you a veteran who is receiving the full benefit associated with your GI Bill?

Would you be able to describe the distinctions between the Post-0/11 GI Bill and the older Montgomery Bill? Do you know which one you qualify for, and if both do you know which one is best for your educational needs?

You need to answer these choices because they permanently govern which benefits you will get. Since you clearly want to end up with the highest amount of financial aid that you can, you need to think carefully about which way you are going to go.

The two bills are different in several ways, such as the following.

Tuition and fees paid directly to the school are covered by the Post-9/11 Bill, however the total money paid cannot exceed the equivalent tuition and fees that would be charged by the most expensive university or college in the state where you study.

A monthly housing allowance is also offered to eligible candidates. Your benefits are calculated from an E-5 allowance for housing costs and associated with the college's geographic location.

In addition, you can use it to cover the cost of your books up to the amount of $1,000, and if you move they might give you $500 to help defray the costs.

The Montgomery GI Bill provided $1,321 dollars every month to students enrolled full time that had served 3 years of active duty.

Although a cursory glance would suggest that the Post-9/11 bill would give you the most money, individuals who qualify for both bills needs to examine their school's tuition and fees before making a decision.

It is important to speak to an advisor at your school before making a choice. He or she will help you choose the option that will provide you with the most money. Once you make a decision, you can't change your mind. Before you can figure this out, you will need to determine what your housing expenses are, as well as what your Post-9/11 option will be (based on your school's zip code).

Making the right choice is a lot easier if you attend a school with a long history of supporting the military. These schools understand the different GI Bill benefits and will help you choose the best option.

As a veteran, you served your country and earned these privileges. Taking full advantage of these opportunities will help you and your family achieve your dreams.
