Barcelona is not only Spain's second largest city; it's also bursting with attractions sure to tempt any travellers with a thirst for art, knowledge and vibrant surroundings. From the art nouveau buildings of Exiample - Barcleno's modernist quarter - to the grace of the old town and the sandy beaches found along the boardwalk in Barceloneta, there are myriad experiences to be enjoyed by intrepid explorers in this Spanish city.

One of the lovely things about Barcelona is how enjoyable it is to simply walk through the city absorbing the intriguing sights and soaking up the chilled-out atmosphere. Chock full of markets, shops, museums, churches and galleries, there's something to explore around every corner on a trip to Barcelona.

La Rambla is a particular favourite of walking fans, as this area is geared to showing people just how much fun Barcelona can be and offers attractions such as flower sellers, street performers and paintings and a myriad of restaurants. Much of Barcelona offers a feast for the senses, in part due to the stunning Gaudi architecture sported by many of the city's most impressive buildings.

Anyone searching for sea breezes will be well satisfied by a stroll along the miles of boardwalk to be found in Barcelona, and if legs get tired there are plenty of beaches to relax and recuperate on. Once travellers have soaked up enough rays they'll find plenty of restaurants and dining opportunities on offer and dancing the night away is a cinch with more than 200 nightspots promising music and laughter to suit all tastes - and don’t forget to make sure you catch an authentic flamenco show while you're in the city.

If it's a carnivalesque atmosphere you're looking for on your holiday, make sure you book your flights to Barcelona to coincide with one of the cities many festivals and celebrations. Visit in late September and you could enjoy Festes de la Mercè, a veritable cornucopia of delights and Barcelona's biggest carnival. Music fans will love visiting the city in June for the Sónar music festival and the midsummer solstice celebration Revetlla de Sant Joan takes place around the same time.

Whatever your reason for visiting Barcelona, it's certainly recommended that before you leave you brave the climb to Güell Park and enjoy a panoramic view of the stunning Spanish city and provide yourself with the memory of a wonderful vista that will last a lifetime.
