Betta fish make excellent pets and they are easy to maintain and cheap to keep as long as you know what you are doing, this is where some betta fish care tips can come in handy, so before you purchase your betta fish, take a look at this article for some helpful hints on taking care of your betta fish to ensure that they live a happy and healthy life.

First of all, you need to make sure that you purchase the right sized tank and then you need to prepare it in advance before you buy the betta. A 5 to 10 gallon fish tank is sufficient for one betta, and once you have your tank you should place it in a suitable part of your home where it will not be disturbed or knocked. You then need to prepare you tank at least one day before you purchase your betta fish to ensure good betta fish care.

First of all, after you have added the gravel or smooth stones to the bottom of the tank, you need to add the water. It is important that you do not forget to add water conditioner to the tank because betta fish need a certain pH level in order to survive and some of the chemicals in tap water can kill betta fish. Once you have conditioned the water, you will need a filter to help keep the tank clean, and a heater to ensure that the water in the tank is always at the correct temperature, this is because betta fish need a certain temperature to survive.

Once this is done, you can now add some extras to your tank. When placing plants in your aquarium, you should always try to use either real plants or silk leaf plants because plastic plants can harm the betta fish. They can rip and tear the fins and the tails of betta fish. If you are not sure, then run your plant over the leg of a stocking and if it tears the stocking, then it should NOT be placed in the tank.

Once you have prepared your tank and ensured that you have added plenty of ornaments so that the betta can hide, then you are ready to add your new betta to his home. You should do this gradually so that the betta can get used to the water and it will be less of a shock. Remember, if you want to keep other fish with your betta, then bottom dwellers are usually the best because colourful fish in the tank will cause the betta to attack them, they are not called Siamese fighting fish for no reason!
