When it comes to buying cars, most people look for the luxury perspective of the vehicle and ignore another very important aspect of the vehicle i.e. the safety perspective of the vehicle. Where this is still true, the growing awareness among the people through media and other sources has created a keen interest among the people in the safety perspective of motor vehicles.
Many companies also strive to make their cars safer for the roads. To ensure safety of the passengers in the vehicles, many companies allow their new car models to pass through some rigorous tests, which are designed to test the performance of the vehicle on the roads and the safety of the passengers in case of an unfortunate accident.
Convertible vehicles have their own specifically designed tests to make sure that the passengers would be safe inside the vehicle in case of an accident. Since the passengers are more exposed to danger in a convertible than in a normal saloon car, the tests, which a convertible car has to pass through, are a lot tougher than those of normal saloon cars.
Airbags are among the most common safety features in today's modern vehicles. However, the orientation and the application of the airbags must be designed accurately to prevent damage to the passenger rather than create more problems. Previously the pressure of the air bags was known to cause neck injuries in case of accidents. However, this scenario has been resolved in the more modern cars.
Convertibles have differently styled airbags, which are accompanied by pop up roll bars, which are very efficient in minimising the injuries to the passengers. Side airbags are also provided to secure the passenger in their position and minimise the possibility of damage that may be incurred in case of an accident.
The roll bars provided in these cars cover to the passengers in case the car rolls over and thus provide almost the same safety of a normal saloon car. These cars are designed to occupy a fixed number of people and the passengers should observe this restriction because this restriction is based on safety regulations. Any violation of this restriction can cause problems in case of an accident.
Another important safety feature of a convertible is the unique design of its seats, which hold the passenger in the right position and thus protects the passengers from any sort of damage caused by slipping from their seats. Some of these luxury cars have special pressure sensors, which adjust the seat suspension according to the weight of the passenger and thus allow a more comfortable and safer seating position. Special seats may also be available for children, which are specially designed to minimise the effect of an accident on such passengers.
These cars are passed through crash tests repeatedly by using dummies with highly sensitive pressure sensors to alter the design and safety features of the vehicle to maximise the safety and protection of the passengers. Furthermore, each car has its own rollover ratings and crash test ratings, which should be considered while buying these vehicles, as these ratings are a measure of the safety of the vehicle themselves.
