Car Head Lights
Car Head Lights
As most of us know car head lights are front head lamps of the car which are mostly used for illuminating the road while driving at night. It is not only used as illuminating the road in dark areas but many use it instead of horn to over take cars or in precipitation.
In 1880 when the first car was made, people used to fuel oil and acetylene as head lights. These ideas lead to the nascence of head of lights. But this primitive oil and acetylene head lights couldn’t bear wind and rain so a inventers had come up with some thing new. In 1898, the first electric bulb was used on Columbian electric car which was optional. Cadillac also introduced electric head lights and electric ignition in 1912.
In 1940, sealed head lights were introduced which were usually of 178mm diameter. By law these auto manufacturers had to install these sealed headlights. Many other common wealth countries made an extensive use of standardized 7 head light.
The first Halogen head light was introduced in 1962 and its popularity increased heavily in Europe, but America never adopted this technology until 1978. In the beginning of 1978, American auto makers started using sealed halogen head lights for 25 years and after that replaceable bulb head lights were introduced in 1983.
The Europeans wanted a new technology which was clearer and bright since highways in Europe are dark than in America. So they started using HID and BMW was the first to use it in 1991. BMW introduced HID in its top of the line car 7 series.
With increasing night drivers, manufacturers are inventing new and advanced head lights for better visibility. Head lights come in different shape, size, color and even different types.
Shapes
Head lights usually come in two shapes, one is driver and the other is pencil lights. Driver lights are capable of giving the driver 1000 feet of vision ahead while pencil can give 2000 feet of visibility.
Types of Head lights
Incandescent Head lights
They are just like any other bulb in the house or in the office, the only difference is that they use high wattage to make their light stronger for better visibility. Such type of head lights use filament to glow which is heated with electric current.
Halogen Head lights
Halogen head lights are far more advanced as compared to incandescent head lights. Instead of using filament it uses halogen gas to illuminate which gives brighter light while drawing less power from the batteries.
Xenon Head lights
Xenon is pretty similar to halogen, instead of halogen gas it uses xenon resulting in brighter light. HID are more advance for of xenon lights. HID are more brighter from the lot. HID has gain a lot of popularity from the past decade. Many buyers are using HID in their customized cars. Due to its high brightness and intensity of light HID is banned in most part of the world.
Advantages of HID
Head lights increases the safety of driving cars at night since they provide good visibility and according to statistical research drivers react more faster with good HID.
HID are far more efficient and consumes less power as compared to any halogen light. A high intensity halogen would consume 70 watt and would produce only 2100 lumens while HIDs are capable of producing 3200 lumens from only 42 watts.
