Car parts Info
Well before learning how to drive one must know at least the basic vehicle parts. In this article, I would tell the readers about the basic parts of a car or a truck.
Radiator
Radiators are heat exchangers; they are used in internal combustion engines to cool down the engine. Radiators carry water inside their tank. The water in the tank circulates through out the engine via water pulley to cool it down. Radiator make use of fan and the pressure of the air intake to cool the water inside the radiator tank.
T-Case
T-case is a part used only in all wheel or 4*4 vehicles. T-case or transfer get power from the transmission and transfers it to the front axles. T-cases have separate gears which a driver can use to get the amount of power he wants for example 2H, 4L, 4H.
Transmission
Transmission or gear box use the power of the engine and provides speed torque to the vehicle. Without this part the vehicle can’t move one bit. A common car has 5 speed gear or 4. A sports car has 7 speed gears. Trucks can even go up to 18 speed gears.
Clutch Plate
Clutch plate is responsible for transmitting rotation, which can be engaged and disengaged with the help of the clutch pedal. Clutch plate is used when the drivers changes the gear.
Car Axle
Car axle is a central shaft which helps in rotating a vehicle. Four wheel drives have 4 axles while rear or front wheel have only 2.
Drive Shaft
Driveshaft transfers power and torque from the transmission and transfers it to the wheel axles. Driveshaft is connected to the front and rear wheels.
Brakes
The name says it all, brakes are used to slow down the vehicle by stopping the rotation of the wheel. A braking system has a disc and a pedal. The pedal gets in contact with the disc and slows it down.
Windscreen Wipers
Windscreen wipers are used for wiping the rain or even dirt. It is a simple mechanical part, which wipes the screen by moving right or left. Wipers have rubber ends.
Bumpers
Vehicles are equipped with front and rear bumpers designed to withstand the impact of the collision. Cars have plastic bumpers and truck’s bumpers are made of steel.
Car Grill
Car grill is an opening of several slits which allows air intake and blocks big particles. Car grill is also used to protect the radiator and allowing air intake for it to cool down the water inside the tank.
Turbo-Charger
Turbo-Charger used to increase engine power by increasing the density of the air entering the engine. This is usually done with the help of a turbine.
Intercooler
Intercooler is an air to air heat exchanging unit which is used to cool down the turbocharger and the engine. Is sits on the top of the engine and makes use of the air intake from the hood scoop grill to cool down the turbocharger.
Head Lights
Head lights of a car are used to illuminate the surrounding for better visibility. Head lights are of different types, but mostly halogen and xenon head lights are used.
Tail Lamps
Tail lamps on the car provide night time vehicle conspicuity. Tail lights have red lighs, indicators in yellow and a while light for indicating that the car would go reverse. The red lights on the car usually provide conspicuity at night time. The yellow lights at right and left end are use to indicate that the drive would turn left or right depending on which indicator is blinking. The white light is to indicate that the driver would go on reverse.
