Evansville does have a history that started with farming but then began to gravitate towards industry and retail to the point where those became more of the focal point of the area leaving the farming to the smaller surrounding communities.
If there is a good point to this side of the story it is that the city managed to bypass the crash that happened as family farms began to fold and die. The other side of that coin is that the recent financial crisis and real estate drop has caused a severe problem in Evansville today.
As like the rest of the country Evansville is being crushed by the current wave of foreclosures and repossessions attacking the country today. The cross section of homes affected is very wide and far ranging and diverse and range from older family owned homes to newer construction that was built to accommodate the influx of business for the industrial and retail trade that became a life’s blood of the local economy.
As the economy crumbles people are moving away from the area to find work and as a direct result more homes are being repossessed homes and foreclosed on and causing a deepening and widened gap that continues to grow rapidly almost on a daily basis.
