There are various yeast infection causes but it is mainly due to the fungus, Candida albicans, that lives on our skin and in our bodies. This fungus can grow like mad and cause us much discomfort and even pain when conditions are right. Foul discharge can also be produced by yeast infections. In order to take preventive measures to reduce our probability of getting this problem, we need to have a knowledge of the various causes of yeast infections.

One of the most common yeast infection causes is that the skin surface is broken or damaged. When moist and warm surfaces of skin rub on each other, the proctective layers on the surface of the skin are usually broken down allowing the fungus to assault. Wearing poorly ventilated underwear and non-absorbent materials clothing can keep moisture and heat on the surface of the skin. Skin damage can also be the result of tight-fitting clothing due to friction. Skin surfaces can be damaged by sexual intercourse without adequate lubrication.

Antibiotics are known for yeast infection causes that many people are not aware of. In order to eliminate the bad bacteria that cause us sickness, doctors may prescribe for us antibiotics. However, they will also destroy the good bacteria that prevent a yeast overgrowth and cause a yeast infection. The meat that we consume also exposes us to antibiotics. It has been known that farm animals are given antibiotics ofttimes to prevent and treat their infections.

Our hormones can cause us yeast infections. Candida albicans loves progesterone, the female hormones. Many women with recurring yeast infections usually find their infection gets worse the week before their menstrual period when progesterone levels are at their highest. As progesterone is found in the birth control pill and hormone replacement therapy, women who use them are also more prone to have Candida albicans overgrowth.

Another one of the little known yeast infection causes is sugar. Candida Albicans thrives on sugar. People who suffer from badly controlled diabetes are far more likely to suffer yeast infections than others. Their blood consists of more sugar than that of others. A Candida albicans overgrowth can be due to a high sugar consumption.

Another one of the relatively unknown yeast infection causes is having too much stress. Our bodies produce chemicals that decrease our immune system when we are subject to stress. You will unquestionably be more disposed to infections when your immune system is weakened. Yeast infections will be able to wreak havoc inside your body if your immune system is weaker than it should be for some reason.
