A number of studies have been conducted to compare different types of animals, and it has been found that dogs are not just pretty sociable but also fairly simple to teach a variety of skills. One of the greatest qualities found in dogs is a high degree of obedience. Yet the dogs found in very many homes do not seem as obedient as they should be. Never the less, human beings have strived and managed to teach dogs a large number of lessons, including attempts at driving!

Presently, there are very numerous schools and books for training dogs. Many of dog training classes and books are geared towards enabling the canines to respond to various needs, think more quickly, and have a fast reaction to given commands.

Dogs have been trained to provide help in a variety of fields and circumstances such as in the police force, aiding people with disabilities, and even in the military. In addition to such specialized areas, stories abound about dogs who have saved the lives of their respective owners in different circumstances. On top of this, dogs have not been left out of sports competitions, where they have achieved outstanding feats.

These are not the only situations in which dogs have been of help to people. There are rescue dogs that have been thoroughly trained to help during emergencies, examples of which are natural disasters like earthquakes and man-made calamities such as terrorist attacks.

All the things mentioned are only possible as a result of training of the dogs. When they are not well trained, dogs can turn to be very dangerous creatures that may cause a great deal of havoc. This may be right from the homes where they are kept to the community as a whole. They have been known to be destructive through such actions as chewing of cloths, shoes, and even furniture. Some are also very good at causing interference with food at home. Some also cause a lot of irritation through unnecessary barking and even soiling of the compound carelessly! There are still other dogs that are too aggressive, resulting in health hazards and even death through savage bites. Such out of control characteristics have caused the lives of both dogs and human beings.

The responsibility of ensuring the discipline of dogs begins with the dog owners. Unfortunately, not all dog owners realize the fact that they need to take necessary measures to give their dogs good training.
