Massage therapy is now becoming one of the fastest growing health industries in the world, with hundreds of massage therapy schools throughout the continents offering massage therapy services for those who wish to pamper themselves with the so-called gentle touch. Along with the rise of massage therapy services is the rise in number of massage therapists.

Massage therapy is by far one of the oldest therapies known to man. Numerous researches have revealed that it was being practiced in the Far and Middle East for at least 5000 years. Several findings also suggest that massage therapy has long been practiced in Egypt, China, Greece and Rome and what are much known to it are its numerous benefits to the body as well as to the spirit.

The massage therapists attained their career in massage through studies and trainings. They spend their time in assessing accurately and treating those who are affected by serious bodily disorders caused by the everyday stress and tension. Another thing that makes them capable of handling massage is the fact that massage therapists are highly trained in assessment and diagnosis of the soft and deep tissues of the body, including the joints, muscles and ligaments.

A massage therapist performs a number of tasks for their clients. All of these tasks are highly considered for relaxation and remedial purposes. Included in the list are the following: 1.) Work on the soft tissues of the human body through massage. A therapist simply massages the muscles, tendons and ligaments to assist healing of whatever imperfections their client is bearing. 2.) A massage therapist must use massage techniques to enhance relaxation and well-being.

Massage therapy is further viewed as a holistic approach that functions to alleviate blood pressure, heart rate and increase the lymph flow and blood circulation. I have read one report detailing what massage can do in the systems of the body. One report shows that massage works on its own way to aid the lymphatic system, which basically runs parallel to the circulatory system. This is what actually makes massage a great tool for enhancing the elimination of waste or unnecessary elements throughout the body. Along with these benefits, massage therapy boosts the range of motions, and in the long run increases the endorphins, which are the natural painkillers of the body.

Although the tasks performed by a massage therapist is not that heavy, certain requirements are set for the therapists to meet. One of the most needed is good health. Well, this is very important as massage therapists will be dealing with people who wish to be healthy, so it is important that they too are healthy and physically fit. Aside from that, a therapist must be caring and with positive attitude. Most of all, he or she must have a genuine interest in helping the clients overcome their physical problems.
