Quality Home Alarm Systems - Reducing False Alarms

A quality home alarm system can be extremely effective in protecting and safeguarding your loved ones and possessions. Some homeowners make the mistake of not getting one in their home because they're worried about false alarms. While you can't totally eliminate them, you can greatly reduce the chances of them occurring by taking a few easy steps.

First, memorize your code. This sounds simple but it is estimated that over 45% of all home alarm false alarms are caused by people forgetting their codes. Choose a number pattern that is second nature. (A child's birthday, your atm pin code, etc.) Simply punching in the right code 100% of the time will go a long way in reducing false alarms. Never, however, write your code down anywhere.

Digital security pads are another great option. Instead of utilizing numbers, and seperate buttons for each, these use LCD touch screens. The number "spots" are large, much easier to see than traditional panels, and are very simple to use.

Remote disarm. These units look very similar and work the same way as the keyless entry key fob many people have for their cars. You can arm or disarm your system from outside of your house. This will cut down on the chances of another common false alarm culprit, setting the alarm as you are about to leave, then deciding to stay home and not shutting the alarm system down.

Taking these steps will reduce the number of false alarms you experience, but the truth is, false alarms are no big deal. They are certainly no reason to not get a system to protect your home.
