ADHD is more common in boys than girls. Studies have show that there are basically three types of ADHD, namely predominantly inattentive type, predominantly hyperactive/ impulsive type and a combination of both.
The predominantly inattentive type has usually shows symptoms of inattention such as absentmindedness, distractibility, a short attention span, and difficulty organizing things. The person who suffers from predominantly hyperactive / impulsive ADHA shows symptoms of hyperactivity and impulivity such as being unable to be seated in one place for a prolonged period. In addition, many children especially, will generally have difficulty waiting his/her turn. In the combined type, both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity is usually observed.
There are a few ways that ADHD can be reduced natually. They are:
1. After dinner walks
2. Playing in the yard and other outside activities
3. Your diet can also be a factor in treating ADHD symptoms. Additives, artificial colorings, flavorings and other chemicals that we ingest daily may interfere with our stomach not to mention prescribed medications (including antibiotics), and antibiotics that most of us take once in awhile. Added to this list of “foreign” substances are modern agricultural methods and food processing that have significantly reduced the availability of nutrients in the foods
that we eat. These "foreign" substances were not found in the diets of our ancestors.
4. The importance of Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acid is one of the main nutrients that we are depleted in and it appears to have such widespread ill-effects. Many modern diseases have been linked to deficits in fish derived Omega 3 fatty acid such as childhood behavioural
disorders such as ADHD and Learning difficulties, depression anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer's just to name a few.
Several studies and reports by the World Health Organisation and the US. National Institute of Health recommend that we should consume a ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 of around 2:1. In most western diets we consume a ratio of Omega 6 to omega 3 which is between
20:1 to 40:1.
The holistic approach with naturopathic have drugs proved to be more effective than the strong and addictive psychiatric drugs such as Ritalin and Adderall in the ADHD treatment. The herbal remedies have been shown to treat the symptoms of ADHD gently and effectively.
A few common herbal remedies for the treatment of ADHD are Ginkgo biloba, Scuttellaria laterifolia (skull cap), Matricaria recutita(German chamomile), Centella asiatica( Gotu cola) Avina sativa( Green oats), and Aspalathus linearis ( Rooibos). All of the above can be found in your herbal or natural food stores.
Natural remedies have been found to be less detrimental to your overall health than that of prescription drugs. Children who are using psychiatric drugs such as Ritalin and Adderall have often developed an addiction or other side effects to their health.
In addition, many people with ADHD have been found to have other related conditions such as learning disorders, ophthalmic convergence insufficiency, conduct disorder, or antisocial personality disorder. ADHD patients are more likely to have a family member with ADHD or one of the related conditions, implying that ADHD may be genetic.
