NUS Business School Executive Education organized a breakfast talk on 27 August 2009, featuring Professor Tarun Khanna, who is visiting NUS Business School.
Professor Khanna, who is the Jorge Paulo Lemann Professor at the Harvard Business School, spoke to an exclusive group of CEOs, leaders and senior managers on the topic ’Billions of Entrepreneurs’, based on his book ‘Billions of Entrepreneurs: How China and India Are Reshaping Their Futures and Yours’. Professor Khanna compared the two rising business powers, and explored the likely evolution of the Chinese and Indian business models, and their implications in the business world. The talk is particularly relevant at this time when China and India are both taking a much larger role in the global economy.
Guests at the talk were able to engage in a lively dialogue with Professor Khanna, and many approached him with their questions on entrepreneurship and business models in China, India and other parts of Asia. In addition, the session provided the participants with an opportunity to network and exchange ideas with other industry leaders and managers over breakfast.
This talk is the third in a series of breakfast talks organised by NUS Executive Education aimed at bringing relevant business knowledge to business professionals and engaging the senior business community. The series covers timely topics delivered by NUS Business School and raises awareness of the various development programs available to CEOs, leaders and senior managers.
About Professor Tarun Khanna
Tarun Khanna is the Jorge Paulo Lemann Professor at the Harvard Business School, where he has studied and worked with multinational and indigenous companies and investors in emerging markets worldwide. He joined the faculty in 1993, after obtaining an engineering degree from Princeton University (1988) and a Ph.D. from Harvard (1993), and an interim stint on Wall Street. During this time, he has served as the head of several courses on strategy and international business targeted to MBA students and senior executives at Harvard.
He also served on the boards and advisory boards of several companies in the financial services, automotive, life sciences and agribusiness sectors. He actively invests in and mentors startups in Asia, and volunteers time with non-profits in India, e.g. the Parliamentary Research Services in New Delhi, which seeks to provide non-partisan research input to India’s Members of Parliament in advance of legislative sessions with a view to enhancing the quality of democratic discourse.
In 2007, he was nominated to be a Young Global Leader (under 40) by the World Economic Forum.
