As an internet marketer there are several ways to advertise your business or product. The “traditional” methods of marketing such as pay per click or posting ads on websites are great but can become very costly and cut into your profits. In my opinion the life blood of a successful internet marketer is building and maintaining a list.
Let me explain first what I mean by a list. A list by no means is a list of things to do or a list of things to accomplish. I’m referring to a different type of list. In the simplest terms, I mean a list of names and email addresses. The easiest way to get a list is to capture a person’s name or email address on your website. These are visitors who have subscribed to your website, newsletter, or email distribution. If you haven’t put a way to capture visitor’s names and emails on your website then you’re missing out on hundreds if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales and profit.
Your next question is probably “How do I get a list?” Well you don’t “get” a list per se. There are businesses out there that will sell you a list of names and email addresses. You want to stray away from them. If you purchase a list and begin emailing these people, you are already in violation of SPAM rules and regulations. Since these people did not willfully opt in to begin receiving emails from you, it constitutes your email as Spam. In the internet marketing world, if you have the reputation of a spammer, kiss your business and any profits goodbye.
Building a list of subscribers may seem hard at first but the more you do it, the easier it gets. Like I mentioned before, having an opt-in section on your website is crucial. Another very successful method to get people to join your list is through a joint venture or JV for short.
When attempting to do a JV, find another business where their customers would benefit from your own product or service. Make sure you are not in direct competition with their business. When you have found another business to do a JV with and both have agreed to promote each other’s product or service, have a JV giveaway. A JV giveaway is where you will provide the product or service from your JV partner for free to any person who signs up on for your list. Everyone is looking for free stuff on the internet so this is a simple tactic to build a large list.
