When building a screendoor, the materials needed include a suitable varnish or paint, a hardware frame for the screendoor, an aluminum insect screening mesh, a lumber measuring 1 x 1 (cleats), nails measuring 1”, disposable glue brushes, a paint rbush, and a polyurethane glue.

As for the tools, the things needed include a spade, nails, hammer, a lumber measuring 5/4 of the 1 ¼ inches frame, a screen molding measuring 1/4 inch x ¾ inch, a chisel measuring ¾ inch, a circular saw, a knife, clamps measuring 10C, a tape measure, a staple gun, and staples.

The first step on how to build a screendoor is to arrange the materials and the tools so that they can be accessed easily while building the screendoor. As for the lumber, it can be bought pre-cut or it can be cut at home. Ensure that the cut pieces of lumber have labels to avoid confusion as the process on how to build a screendoor starts.

When cutting, the boards must be placed into a mechanism that will make sure that the saw is in place and that it is being maneuvered to the right direction. One tip is to hold the board in place by screwing it to 2 other boards in a horizontal position with an angle of 90 degrees. On the workbench, the two boards may be riveted. The joints may be smoothed using a chisel.

The next step on how to build a screendoor is to assemble the door. The parts must be put together first in order to make sure that the screendoor to be made has a perfect fit and shape. After the alignment has been checked, the parts may be secured using the polyurethane glue. This process is applicable to all joints. Once done, these joints must be clamped together with the use of the C-clamps. Before proceeding to the next step on how to build a screendoor, the maker must ensure that the glue used on the joints has thoroughly dried.

The next step is to fix the screen. The frame or the wood must be painted before it should be attached to the screen. The screening mesh should be spread on the door, should be stretched perfectly, and then should be pinned to the door. The screen now has to be stapled to the internal frame. The edges must then be smoothed by trimming with the use of a knife. The screen molding should then be used to hide the staples.

After fixing the screendoor, the frame may now be fixed in place. The most complicated-free of all the choices of frame is a spring-hinge and handle but there are so many other choices available that one must go through most of them first before deciding.
