How do I get great abs? This is probably the number one question asked by
people starting an exercise program. You would be surprised at how many people
take the wrong approach to get a flat stomach. There are people that run miles
and miles a day yet still have a layer of fat covering their abdominals. There
are also people that literally do hundreds of sit-ups and other abdominal
exercises during their workout, but still no six pack.

Perhaps the question is not "how do I get six pack abs?" What the question
should be is "how do I get definition in my abs?" Believe it or not everyone
has a set of abdominals beneath their belly; the only reason why you can't see
them is because of the layer of fat over the stomach.

Don't get me wrong, I think doing 200 sit-ups during a workout is great! A lot
of abdominal work creates a strong core. Unfortunately though, that is just
not the way to six pack abs.

You can only get definition in your abdominals with a calorie deficit, that's
it, that's the secret, nothing else works! What this mean is that your body has
to increase the number of calories it burns or decrease the number of calories
it takes in. It's a mathematical equation but it's actually pretty simple.

If your body type requires you to eat a 2000 calorie diet to maintain your
current weight, then increase the intensity of your cardio and strength
training workouts to burn more calories. If you don't want to increase the

intensity of your workouts then you can reduce the amount of calories to 1500
calories of food per day. For fast results you can do both and increase the
intensity of your workouts and decrease your food calorie intake. Like I said,
it's a numbers game but it works.

As you can see, your abs are there already, so you can back off from your
abdominal exercises for a bit and concentrate on burning more calories. You
are half way from the finish line; the other half is shedding the body fat
around your stomach.
