Truly white teeth really look good! I can't argue with that. Who wouldn't want to have a million dollar smile? There's different ways to whiten your teeth. There are natural ways and chemical ways to do so. Each has a purpose and each works accordingly. Some have heard that baking soda works to whiten teeth naturally. It's cheap and very easy to get. All grocery stores sell it! But is it true? Does baking soda whiten teeth?

How does it work?

If we know what it does exactly we'll be able to know if it really does work at whitening teeth. Baking soda is one of those interesting everyday things that completely change when wet. If you have ever mixed it with just enough water, you will find that you have just made a paste that sticks together. It looks very fluid and yet it flows very slowly and sluggishly but very smoothly. But if you add more water to the mixture, the paste dilutes itself into the water and you get murky water.

When it gets wet though, it releases free radicals that penetrate surfaces and bind with stain molecules to clean and whiten surfaces. Because these free radicals penetrate the surface, if the surface isn't hard enough, it could potentially damage it.

So, What About Baking Soda On eeth?

Many people use it on their teeth as a natural teeth whitener. And yes, it does work. However, you do have to use caution and only use it on occasion as its surface penetration and subsequent whitening could damage your enamel. There are toothpastes that contain baking soda as well as toothpastes that contain less abrasive whitening agents.

Bottom line, yes it will clean and whiten coffee and soda stains. But if your stains are more serious, then you may need to try a different method.
