Whether you are just getting into the dating scene or just getting back into the dating scene, one thing is certain, there are a lot of options. For every step in the dating process; knowing what you want, finding someone, dating, and developing a relationship, it seems as though there are dozens of ways to go about it. So, if you are just jumping into the dating pool, it could really help to have an idea of what’s out there.

Most articles on the subject of dating get right to meeting someone. But how do you choose who to meet? I think the first logical step is to understand what it is you want in a date partner. It might be easy to find someone you find physically attractive, but if you haven’t figured out what other aspects interest you, you may end up going through a lot of trial and error. So, to figure it out, you could try any one of the psychological, social, personality, or even astrological profile sites. These profiles give you a rundown of your personality and interests and many suggest compatible traits to look for in others. You could also ask friends and family; but expect those inputs to be somewhat biased. Many singles take advantage of online matchmakers or Internet dating services to get a handle on what type of date would be best for them. These sites require you to register and list all of your profile information so they can suggest just the right type of person for you to date.

From there, you can take this information and try to meet this type of person on your own, or you can use the service to make a connection for you. In either case, you’ve increased you chances at having a good date just by knowing what type of date you should try to get. Now, meeting that someone should be a lot easier because you’ll know where to look. For example, you just found out that you want an intelligent, focused, athletic type with an eye towards achievement. Well you could find success at the athletic club in the local business district, the university gym, or an online site that specializes in this type of client; you don’t go hang out at the sports bar.

When it comes to dating the special someone you’ve found, find out their interests, likes, and pet peeves first. If possible, have a casual phone call, or send an email asking what types of things they’d like to do on a date. It never hurts to be direct. If you met through a matchmaker, it’s possible you’ve already gotten this info from a personal profile or through contact online. Use this information to help design a dating experience that both of you will enjoy and feel comfortable with. Remember, this is an opportunity for both of you to build a relationship. You’ve already established that you are interested in each other, and have similar relationship goals in mind. Now, relax and enjoy each other’s company. It should be a great date!
