Brushing your teeth
is one of the most important parts of taking care of your personal hygiene. Most dentists recommend that you brush and floss your teeth three times per day after every meal. Of course, that is difficult to do for some of us that are constantly on the go or happen to work outdoor jobs, but the idea is to brush your teeth as often as possible.
There are several good reasons for keeping your teeth clean by brushing. The first is because if you don't you'll have bad breath. Bad breath is caused by bacteria that builds up in your mouth from the food we eat, things we drink, what we breath, etc. Do you notice how your mouth tastes first thing in the morning after you wake up? That's because of the bacteria that built up in your mouth overnight. Not very pleasant is it?
Another reason why brushing teeth is important is because of tooth decay. Over time that same bacteria will begin to build up in your mouth and cause tooth decay and you'll end up with a mouth full of rotten teeth and most likely with serious tooth pain. If you continue to ignore your personal hygiene and not brush your teeth regularly you'll likely end up having to wear false teeth, also known as dentures. These dentures are not cheap by any means and will also change your facial appearance and make eating more difficult.
You should visit a dentist twice per year for regular check-ups. Your teeth are one of your most valued assets and it's important that you take good care of them. Your dentist will do regular deep cleaning of your teeth in order to remove plaque build up, they will take x-rays to see if you have any hidden tooth decay that must be taken care of and they will give you fluoride treatments, if needed and repair any teeth that need fillings.
For most people, seeing a dentist
twice per year simply is not in their budget, especially for families, however there are dental plans available now that make visiting the dentist much more affordable. These are called discount dental plans and you can save as much as 60% off on routine dental care by joining one and visiting dentists within their network.
The bottom line is that brushing teeth is as important as taking a shower, wearing deodorant, combing your hair or any other kind of personal hygiene. Take good care of your teeth on a regular basis and you'll be one of the fortunate individuals that have their original teeth their entire life and never have to wear dentures.
