With only days to go until old fashioned lightbulbs are banned by the EU (on the 31st August) in favour of low-energy alternatives, shops such as Homebase, John Lewis, Sainsbury’s and Asda are reporting severe shortages of clear 100w bulbs, with many stores having sold out completely. Ryness is one of the only companies still able to meet the demand from consumers wanting to stock up on the old type of bulbs, both online at Ryness.co.uk and in some of its high street shops.

Ryness has seen a massive uplift in sales of the old style of lightbulbs of all wattage levels since the news broke of the EU ban earlier this year. The company sensed customer unrest at this EU ban and was quick to inform them of the extent of the ban: instead of only the 100w clear bulb being banned under new restrictions, it would in fact be 100w clear bulbs and all non-clear bulbs, regardless of wattage or shape. Ryness also shed light on the fact that while ministers were claiming the phase-out of old light bulbs was voluntary for retailers, in actual fact all EU manufacturers were told to cease production of the old styles entirely, drying up all future stock.

At the same time Ryness was informing a disgruntled public of the true facts of the EU ban, the company began stockpiling the old styles in order to meet their customers’ demand for as long as possible. While the stock has been flying off the shelves, Ryness does still have some limited stock remaining, and is one of the last retailers in the United Kingdom to do so.

Ryness’ commitment to meet the demand for the traditional banned lightbulbs has proved a hit with a public that has become increasingly frustrated by the EU; if not by the restrictions imposed by them then by the lack of disclosure and clear information about those restrictions. Not only does Ryness see it as its duty to disclose the full implications of the ban to its customers, and to provide them with the old style light bulbs for as long as possible, but it is also committed to giving them choice. That is why Ryness has created a range of lighting products that encompasses energy saving light bulbs and LED lighting, while still ensuring that its customers get access to the products they require while they can.

Hurry to www.ryness.co.uk before the old style lightbulbs fade out forever.
