Renting a property comes with responsibilities. In general, the responsibilities of a tenant fall on property management and building tenant-landlord relationships. Yes, the tenant may not own the house. However, these things are part of the renting package. No matter what part of the world you want to rent, you will still be asked to do your share of responsibilities in renting.

If you do your responsibilities as a tenant, it is expected that your landlord will love you. In fact, they will be grateful for how you treated their property and how you deal with them. General tenant responsibilities are no different from the other states. The law backs up these responsibilities but it can be enacted without it (just as long as it is humane and fair). Besides, it wouldn't be enacted without both parties agreeing to the lease agreement. But if you look at it, these responsibilities can be done out of common good and not because a particular act was submitted for its enactment.

1. Always pay your rent dues on time. If in any case, you had some sort of temporary hardship and you can come up with the rent pay few days later, always inform your landlord. 2. Always maintain the property. Every part of the home should be kept clean or at least presentable. Any equipment or appliances and fixtures provided must be used properly. Maintenance of these items should be done.

3. Neighbors should be respected. You can do this simply by letting them enjoy their privacy and maintaining the peaceful of the place. As much as possible, you do not want to do anything that could disturb them.

4. If you have to be somewhere else for more than a week or even months, always inform your owner. You do not have to tell them about the details of the trip but it is a good thing to let them know that you will be leaving with intentions of coming back. This surely is a good example of being responsible.


5. Don’t do anything to breach your contract with your landlords.

6. If there are damages that needs repairing, inform your landlords right away. Do not wait for weeks or days before telling them. The earlier you inform them about the problem, the faster they can take actions for it.

7. If you decide to transfer to a new home, let this be known to your landlord months or weeks before the move. This shall give them time to inspect the property and make an agreement with you on how the security deposit will be returned.

8. On the moving day, it is important that you leave the property in good form. The key to the house should also be remitted to them.
