If you are looking for somewhere to visit that is in Europe and filled with plenty of wonderful cities and eye catching destinations, you couldn’t do much better than to visit Poland.
Poland shares borders with several countries including Germany, and boasts such cities as Warsaw – its capital – Krakow and Gdansk among its number.
This gives any tourist visiting the country plenty of places to visit and use as a holiday base. Warsaw is packed with places to go, and the historic centre of the city has been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You will find the Royal Castle of Warsaw in this area of the city. Building began on this castle in the late 16th century, but it was sadly destroyed during the Second World War. Thankfully reconstruction work began to build it again, and the castle you see there now is the result of this effort in the 1970s.
While Warsaw is located to the east of the country, you will find Gdansk nestling on the northern Baltic coastline. And the best way to discover both the past and present influences on this city is to walk what is known to all as the Royal Way.
This is the route the king of Poland used to take through the city, which is why it has adopted the name. But not only are you following in the king’s footsteps, you are also putting yourself in a position to see some of the finest sights the city has to offer.
The Golden Gate is one such sight which should not be missed. It is nearly four hundred years old and the gate itself has been built to allow for the best view of the street beyond from the other side. There are several other notable gates in Gdansk as well, some of which are also on the Royal Way.
But Poland doesn’t just offer outstanding cities which have largely been rebuilt after the heavy losses of World War Two. It also has mountain ranges and other areas which are far from the cities, and thus offer a more relaxed and quieter holiday than you would get elsewhere.
If mountains appeal to you then head to the Carpathian Mountains in the south of Poland. Krakow is the closest city to these mountains, so it is good to know you can have the best of both worlds if you wish.
And for a completely different holiday you can also head to the Baltic coastline to enjoy a dip in the warm Baltic sea. If this sounds appealing, head for Debki, the most popular northern resort of all.
