Pursuing a college degree is very hard to accomplish, especially when there is a problem in terms of funding. Education is very expensive and it involves a lot of money in order for a person to get one. But there is a chance to have an education without pulling a cent from one's pocket. Scholarships and grants send deserving individuals to the highest levels of academics. Although there may be differences between the two, their goal is the same. And unlike student loans, scholarships and grants need not to be repaid.

A grant is offered not directly to the students or the individual; it is rather afforded to the students organizations through which the individual applies for this grant. Grants which are offered by both the Federal Government and private institutions entail the completion of a certain project such as getting a degree. If given a grant, it is necessary for the grantee to really finish the task assigned to him. Furthermore, getting a grant is much harder than procuring a scholarship. This is so, because in grants the benefactor will scrutinize ones application and the application of other aspiring applicants. The best applicant then will surely get the grant.

With scholarships, the student is not obliged to produce an end result nor receive an award of any form for completion of a given task, unlike that of grants. Scholarships are under a general funding for education of the Federal Government which implies that a number of qualified students can avail a particular scholarship program. These programs may be had in a particular educational institution while others may be availed in any college or university of the students choice.

Scholarships come in different forms. There are those intended for single mothers who want to go back to school to pursue an education, grab a degree and fulfill their ambitions. Some scholarships are designed to help individuals depending on their potentials, skills, abilities or depending on ones economic status. Mothers can apply also to these programs. Through efforts of the Obama Administration mothers may now be given the chance to return to school and follow their dreams. A dream to provide a better life and future for their children.
