If you look for this Samsung TV in Currys, Dixons or PC World you'll notice it called the UE46B7000. There are a range of model numbers for the matching TV, though. So what is going on? The 46B7000 has a fine red trim around the television. Nearly all other shops stock it as the 46B7020. This has a comparable white edging with a jet black sheen surround. Other parallel models are the 46B7000W and the 46B7020W. All the specification, etc is the equivalent for every one of these.

First Views: By far the most striking attribute of the UE46B7000 is the depth of it. Less than 1.5 inches, in truth. The black sheer finish to the border of the screen looks wonderful, as does the slim transparent connection between the television and the base. A further plus point is that Samsung has incorporated all of the key parts inside the TV - several manufacturers have required viewers to find a location for a separate box for such things as the Freeview tuner.

Sound: In common with nearly all new Televisions the audio output of the UE46B7000 is poor quality. The width of the UE46B7000 is too little to include a adequate audio system. It would be prudent to look at adding a surround audio system.

Picture Quality: This is the key benefit of the UE46B7000 over its competitors, in that it has replaced fluorescent backlighting with Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). Even though the backlighting technology is out of the ordinary, the UE46B7000 remains a LCD TV. LED backlighting is supposed to have the following benefits:

* This technology gives a much more consistent backlight across the TV, as it uses a lattice system.

* As the LEDs are absolutely controllable and can simply be wholly turned off, they can produce great blacks.

* The response rate of the television is quicker.

* Additional colours can be shown.

Socket connections: The UE46B7000 has all the ports to connect to other equipment and PCs that the majority of us are expected to want - an LAN port, 2 USB ones and 4 HDMI ports. The USB connections allow the playing of a diversity of multimedia file formats as well as to your wireless set-up (you will want a separate dongle.) And the LAN network connection permits easy access to files on your home network.

The UE46B7000 comes with 2 remote controls. Worthwhile if one gets misplaced! The bigger one looks somewhat bizarre. It curves over at one end, a bit similar to a shoe horn. Peculiar to use at first, but OK after a bit. The second, smaller remote simply allows volume power and channel changes.

Environmental considerations: In service the UE46B7000 uses simply as much power as a light bulb - a large amount less than nearly all modern televisions.

To Close: The UE46B7000 has simply manifestly ordinary sound output, as with most flatscreen Televisions. However the rich colours and deep blacks it produces outperform other similarly priced televisions.
