The Magellan Maestro 4700 is a full-featured yet compact GPS unit from one of the biggest and most reliable names in the business. Sporting a newly designed slimmer profile, here are just a few features that make the newest addition to the Maestro line a must-have for any traveler.

The one-touch favorites feature, means that users can have their favorite places such as cafes, right at their fingertips. Furthermore, having taken consumer interests into consideration, the Maestro 4700 now includes twelve additional bookmarks which can be used in order to store information regarding one's places of interest. Of course, one can also bookmark your most common searches and because the device has a large 4.7 inch touch screen, viewing is easier than ever.

With Bluetooth technology continuously advancing, consumers now have huge expectations and as a result, the Maestro 4700 has ensured that Bluetooth calling is possible from a vast range of compatible phones. As long as your phone is within a few feet of the Maestro 4700, it can play back calls on its speakers. Furthermore, it can even place calls to various points of interest simply by using phone numbers which are associated with map data. In fact, the device is also able to access the internal address book of your mobile phone and because it incorporates "noise-canceling", excessive road noise is virtually eliminated so as to ensure clearer calling.

Another noticeable feature included with this device, is traffic analysis. This feature has been included simply because radio reports are often inadequate for those on the move. By using its "predictive traffic analysis", the Maestro 4700 is able to create routes in order to help you avoid traffic congestion. Unfortunately however, it appears that the Maestro 4700 is unable to receive traffic updates, a feature which is available on some other GPS devices.

Amazingly enough, by using the unit's "pedestrian mode", it's no longer necessary to be concerned, should you forget where you've parked. In fact, the device can guide you directly to your car, irrespective of how crowded a parking lot may be.

Access to points of interest is also exceptional, with both a standard database as well as Magellan's exclusive AAA Tourbook guide. Search results from both sources are organized in a tabbed format. Searching is made even easier by QuickSpell, a smart spell-correction technology that makes entering addresses and cities for route-planning and POI search a snap.

If you're the type who prefers landmarks to directions, then you'll appreciate the Maestro's 3-D landmark view which offers additional context alongside standard driving directions. Furthermore, Maestro's touch zone technology offers drivers a fully interactive and context-sensitive map. Maestro also offers a voice command feature, enabling speech-based and hands-free access to key commands. Text-to-speech also speaks streets by name, thus mitigating the need to take your eyes off the road and providing for a safer driving experience.

Taking everything into consideration, one cannot argue that at a price of $299.99, the Magellan Maestro 4700 represents excellent value for money and as such, it's an ideal addition to any traveler's arsenal of tools. With its touch screen enhanced interface, AAA Tourbook, Bluetooth calling, and exceptional database, this is one device which is certainly worthy of a place on anyone's dashboard.
