Most of us know of this dangerous disease called ‘Aids’. Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome is what this disease stands for.
-Acquired refers to how a person can get infected by this disease.
-Immune deficiency refers to how weak a person gets while fighting for this disease.
-Syndrome refers to a group of this health problem that could result in the disease
Aids is the result of a virus called HIV, which is the acronym of Human Immunodeficiency Virus. When a person gets infected by HIV, the body will hence try to fight this disease. It will produce antibodies, the molecules that are meant to fight the HIV.
When a person carried out a blood test, the test looks for these antibodies produced in the body. When these antibodies are found, it means you have the HIV infection. These people are then referred to as having their test positive, further referred to as “HIV-Positive”. Being HIV positive does not mean than one has Aids. This disease slowly continues to weaken down one’s immune system.
What spreads HIV?
One does not normally get Aids, when you get infected by HIV; it’s possible to then develop AIDS. Most people do get Aids through the following means
* Having sex with a person infected by Aids
* Sharing a needle with a person who is infected
* Being born to a mother who is infected or suckling from a mother who is infected
What’s the cure for this deadly disease?
There is no cure that is so far found by medical science when it comes to resolving this mysterious disease. There are drugs that could help reduce the damage that it’s causing to a person’s immune system. Pills are medicines are taken hence for this purpose. There is no way to absolutely get rid of this HIV from the body. Aids is deadly, all that can be done is reducing it, not clearing it altogether.
