Once a migrant on a skilled migration visa has lived in Australia for a certain period of time, they may be able to apply for permanent residency – which means they would become an Australian citizen with all of the associated rights and social benefits.
New Wave Or Constant Tide?
As mentioned previously, the number of immigrants to Australia has been increasing on a regular basis for the last two decades. The amount of immigrants from countries such as the UK and New Zealand has been increasing, as has the number of immigrants from previously less developed countries, such as those in what was formerly known as Eastern Europe. As the economy in these countries developed, it became more possible, for more of the inhabitants to contemplate a move to Australia.
