Although many people interchange and use them differently, the terms “Cardiac arrest” and “heart attach” are never the same. A heart attack may sometimes result in a cardiac arrest, but only sometimes, though not all. A cardiac arrest refers to the heart stoppage. Cardiac arrest definitely needs immediate and professional attention by doctors and immediate treatment.

To identify if one is suffering from a cardiac arrest, following are the symptoms:

1)Cardiac arrest is normally followed by the heart attack symptoms

2)Sudden collapse of a person

3)Stoppage of heart beat

4)Losing breathe rapidly

5)Absent of pulse

6)Becoming unconscious

A person might be suffering from cardiac arrest even without the required symptoms. During unfortunate conditions individuals may face sudden death just minutes after such symptoms as well.

The most common reasons for patients to suddenly die from a cardiac arrest are due to a coronary heart disease. These cardiac arrests lead to sudden death because the electrical impulse in a person suffering from cardiac arrest may become rapid or chaotic or sometimes both. This irregularity in the rhythm of the heart beat may lead to the heart is sudden failure or it may just stop beating. Some cardiac arrests in patients are due to the sudden slowing of the heart beat.

Permanent and brain death of a person suffering from this arrest starts exactly about 4 to 6 minutes after one experiences such a cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest can be reversed only on circumstances when the heart beat of the person is restored with the help of an electric shock to the heart. A victim’s chances of surviving this arrest have reduced to 10% as each minute passes by without the required defibrillation.

According to statistics it is shown that more than 95% of the patients suffering from cardiac arrest die even before reaching the hospital for further supervision.
