One of the several products in Panasonic's range of entry level flat screen televisions, the Panasonic TX-P42X10 is a great product all round with a number of features that you often obtain in a much more expensive model. Unfortunately, however, some people are going to be put off by some are the compromises that it seems to make in terms of quality.
Firstly, it is important to dispel some of the myths which you will hear from sales people when it comes to flat screen televisions like TX-P42X10. While of course you want something that is future proof as possible, and something that will play high definition video these days, you do not need something that is full high definition.
Firstly, it is important to dispel the common myth that everything must be full HD. In fact, many people will barely be able to notice the difference unless you are literally right up front and only a few inches away from the screen. The fact that most of the cheaper flat and televisions are only HD ready, is the reason why they are much cheaper and in fact, it can be quite nonsensical to spend hundreds of pounds more than the TX-P42X10 costs on something which is full HD when you probably aren't even going to notice much difference, if any.
The fact is, the screen of the TX-P42X10 is certainly impressive and you will notice that the quality is extremely good. The 42 inch screen size means that you can watch all your movies as you would in the cinema and coupled with a decent 5. 1 surround sound system, you will certainly be impressed by the performance of this set.
What's more, the vast majority of people today still do not have a large collection of high quality full high definition movies and still have their large collections of older DVD discs. With any older content, TX-P42X10 viewers will not spot any difference at all regardless of the resolution of the screen. However, of course you want something that is future proof, especially if you are spending this sort of money.
Another thing that might put people off the TX-P42X10 screen is the fact that it is plasma rather than LCD. However, plasma TVs actually have a number of advantages over traditional LCD screens, most notably the fact that the viewing angle issue is not found in plasma screens.
Plasma and LCD should not be confused as they deploy completely different forms of technology. Plasma, in which the TX-P42X10 screen is constructed of ionised gases behind the glass cover, is very different between the liquid crystal solution that you find an LCD screens. As a result, picture quality is not necessarily better in either one, but they are considerably different. Which when you go for depends on your personal choice.
The Panasonic Viera TX-P42X10 comes with decent stereo speakers built in and a FreeView tuner. However, it is strongly advisable to buy a separate set of speakers such as a 5. 1 surround sound set since they don't cost a lot extra and half with the experience of watching the movie is having great sound as well.
All the features that you normally will need are built into the Panasonic Viera TX-P42X10 including the possibility to connect your computer and a number of other accessories and peripherals. The TX-P42X10 does not come with anything fancy, but then for the asking price of around 600 pounds, you can't complain.
