No matter how much Madden progresses, there has been a past of certain plays that don't work effectively in Madden, and still don't, even in the most up-to-date version, Madden 10, or Madden 2010. Although they are drawing closer to the real thing, the solution still hasn't been figured out and errors exist where certain common attacks don't work normally enough compared to live football, or period, don't work at all.
Draw plays. Defenses don't properly read pass-run and the blocking of the OL is inconsistent, and moreso, the "feel" of the draw play does not compare to the real thing. You will often get dropped at the line of scrimmage, more than you ever would in real life if the play was mixed in well.
Screen plays. Offensive linemen don't take note of their assignment frequently enough and will constantly just let through defenders, and not because they are too talented and strong ; because they just freak out and don't register what is happening on the play.
Reverses. Reverses don't work efficiently and often never work in Madden. Although they need similar precision in real life, at some point these should be efficient on the virtual gridiron.
Counter plays. These tend to finish in loss of yardage more often than they do in real life due to backfield penetration and offensive lineman artificial intelligence being incapable of picking up the sprung defenders.
Zone plays. Due to cutting AI running game doesn't feel authentic in the way a typical zone play is executed. In a single back alignment you will sometimes get a run-through defender because of offensive lineman AI being up to par.
Wildcat toss. For some reason the wide receiver/running back can't run due to an issue in the game. I guess they thought it would be too hard to stop, but that's part of the benefit of the alignment. The whole strength of having it in the game is lost in terms of throwing the ball.
