Have your sales results lately been disappointing? Or are you doing well in your line of work and just want to polish your selling skills? In either case, here are certain selling mistakes that just about any seller needs to avoid to acquire success in his/her line of work:

Over-praising Your Product and Stretching the Truth

Sellers usually have nonstop sales pitches that only over-praise their products, which drives off customers. No matter how good your product or service is, make sure that you do not praise it more than is required. Be honest about your service; do not lie at all, particularly to a potential customer who might spend hard earned money based on the information provided by you. This helps in building a positive perception of your product.

Not Knowing Your Competitor

Another major mistake that most sellers usually make is that they have no idea about the workings and offerings of their competitors. If you want to sell something, you have to be better than your competitors in just about every aspect. For this, put in a little extra effort and find out your competitors strengths, weakness, selling techniques and habits etc.

Lack of Confidence

Sellers at times lack self-confidence. If you want to sell, you must have full confidence in yourself as well as your product. Having little self-confidence makes potential customers doubt your products and services, which of course drives them off.

Saying ‘I Don’t Know’

This is one major mistake that puts off a number of potential customers. Saying ‘I don’t know’ simply makes customers believe that your product is not up to the mark as its sales representatives have no knowledge about it. What you should do in such a scenario is to tell your customer that you do not know about it right now, but you will find out for sure. This leaves an impression that you are proactive and would also add to your knowledge base.

Think You Know Everything About Your Product?

Most sellers believe that knowing just the basics of their product would get them sales. This is not true at all. If you want to sell your product, not only should you know about its basics, but must also know about its added features and benefits. If the same thing is repeated over and over again, rest-assured that your customer would lose interest and move onto your competitor.

Listen to Your Customers Needs

One mistake that most sellers make is that they do not listen to their customers. A constant blabber about your product will not help you achieve a sale. Listen to what your customers want and figure out what they need. This is extremely important if you want to gain your customers trust and maintain their attention.

Make the Most Out of Your Selling Time

A number of sellers have been found wasting their time on irrelevant activities, whereas they should be utilizing it to maximize their sales. Make sure that all of your selling time is dedicated to the customers so you may acquire sales. If there are things that can be done after work, make sure that you do not get busy with them during work hours.
