If you want to create a romantic mood, the right lighting is vital. These days there is plenty of choice when it comes to lighting. You can choose from wall sconces, chandeliers, table lamps, floor lamps and traditional candlelight. Candlelight may be romantic but tends to provide very little light, so having another source of light is ideal.

Soft Lighting and Hard Lighting

Soft lighting is used to create a romantic mood. It diffuses light and minimizes harsh shadows. Hard lighting is good for working and reading…but far less conducive to a romantic mood! You can also choose from different colored bulbs in addition to different styles of lamps. Overhead lighting tends to be harsh so lamps or wall sconces are a useful addition. You can use the overhead lighting when you need to and the softer lighting at other times. Diffused, warm lighting adds a definite romantic, old world charm to the room.

Table Lamps

There is plenty of choice when it comes to table lamps. Lamps which suit your room and its colors are easy to find. Bear in mind that a low wattage bulb is best, as it helps to create a romantic, calming atmosphere. You can choose from glass, canvas, metal and many other types. Romantic lighting in the bedroom is relaxing. Matching table lamps not only look good but provide adequate lighting too. There are many kinds of table lamp to choose from. If you want to read as well as relax, a dimmer switch on your table lamp could be the perfect solution. You can also choose from different bulbs or place the lamps nearer to the bed or further away.

Wall Sconces

A wall sconce can be transparent, translucent or opaque, depending on what you have in mind. Wall sconces and candle sconces can provide a gentle light without overhead glare or taking up space like a floor lamp would.

Floor Lamps

Similar to table lamps, floor lamps come in many different heights and sizes. Some have dimmers so you can choose the level of light required. You can choose anything from timeless Tiffany lamps to simple, modern torchieres. A floor lamp can draw attention to one part of the room or provide a gentle, warm glow to the whole room.

Chandeliers

There is much more versatility with chandeliers these days. You can choose from small ones to large, ornate ones, depending on the effect you have in mind and the size of the room it will be placed in. Modern chandeliers are shallow and wide, as opposed to the enormous lead crystal ones that were used in medieval churches! You can choose from vintage styles of chandelier to more compact modern ones. If your rooms are small, a chandelier can provide the same amount of soft light as a floor lamp or table lamp, but take up less space. Crystal Chandeliers can be used as a decorate focal point and can give as much or as little light as you wish.

Creating a romantic mood has never been easier, thanks to the vast array of lamps on offer these days. Whatever the size of your home or your personal preferences, it has never been easier to find the perfect lamp to suit you.
