Guess what, the data is out, of all the methods researched, clinical hypnotherapy comes out on top…

Because I receive a lot of questions about clinical hypnotherapy and smoking cessation, I started doing some serious investigating. Here’s some information I though you would find interesting:
“Smokers trying to quit sometimes use nicotine patches to fight their tobacco dependence. But patches don't work for everyone. New research suggests that patches might be made more effective if used in combination with hypnosis, just as they tend to work better when used in conjunction with professional counseling. A recently published study showed hypnotherapy to be as effective as standard behavioral counseling when combined with nicotine patches in helping smokers to quit and stay off cigarettes for one year.” (USNews and World Reports, 2008).

I have researched, interviewed experts, and have sampled a plethora of audio hypnosis programs that claim hypnosis can help with smoking cessation.
The Good News

The good news is that I learned that clinical hypnotherapy can be highly effective for smoking cessation; research shows that when done correctly the success rate is slightly above 66%. Compare that to the success rates of trying to quit on your own: 5%, using behavior therapy 25%, or using Nicotine Replacement Products, 25% and hypnosis looks like the best option out there. In fact, there is no other method supported by research that even comes close.

BY THE WAY, BEWARE OF ANY PRODUCT CLAIMING A 99% SUCCESS RATE – IT SIMPLY CANNOT BE TRUE!!!

The Bad News

It turns out that in order to get the 66% success rate, you have to pay attention to a couple of details. First of all, it requires at least 6 sessions.
Repeat.
It requires at least 6 sessions.
Yes, this means that all of those one session promises and traveling group hypnotherapy sessions are mostly scams. Secondly, there is a specific protocol used that only psychologists, social worker, and physicians have access to that the research is based on, they have trained for years. When choosing a clinical hypnotherapist, it’s extremely important that the therapist be a qualified professional, otherwise the results will not even come close to the 66%. One thing we can tell you after this investigation is that the quality of clinical hypnotherapy varies widely and it is very important to do your research before choosing a therapist.

Finding a qualified therapist is extremely difficult, and if you do find one - expect to pay at least $300 per session. So you are looking at spending at least $1800 for effective clinical hypnotherapy if you do it in person. If you settle for someone with just a CHT after their name, you are just wasting your money. You need to make sure they are a psychologist, social worker, or physician.
An Affordable Alternative

Hypnosis audio programs can be an effect alternative for home use are getting to be very popular and in a lot of cases can be just as effective as seeing the therapist in person. If you choose this option, you must follow the instructions and follow protocol. The good part about these types of programs is that they are far more affordable and you can listen when you want, for as long as you want. We evaluated the most popular programs out there, and found some good ones on the market.
