LED TV is just another product on the market with an acronym in front of two letters that we recognize. Or is it? More and more people are starting to become part of the LED TV market because they also want to have the technology that everyone else possesses.

LED stands for light emitting diode and is used as the backlight for LCD TVs. An LCD TV has been the current must have TV. LCD is short for liquid crystal display. Most LCD TVs mainly use cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) for the backlight. Compared to the traditional LCD TV, the new LED backlit TVs use more of the light emitting diode for the backlight. Current LED-backlit LCD TVs use LED lighting for approximately forty percent of the backlight.

The typical light emitting diode is too large for individual pixels on a conventional television so no television is a true LED TV. The current main use of a true LED technology is for massive screens such as those that are used at sports stadiums. Because the display is so sharp, the images are able to come out clearly.

The recent launch of an LED range by Samsung led to a bit of an uproar in the broader technology industry because it is not a true LED television. However, their argument is that they have a higher percentage of light emitting diode in the liquid crystal display so that is why they have called it an LED TV series.

The main difference between an LED LCD TV and a "regular" LCD TV is that there is a greater image contrast on the LED LCD TV. This is because the more extensive use of the backlighting LED means that the shadows of various images are more pronounced.

Those that are more conscious of the environment are very pleased to hear that there is a forty per cent reduction in the amount of energy that is used by these new TVs. That means that they can have a clear conscience and it is definitely a great selling point for the unit, especially for those that want to be environmentally friendly.

The LED TV has revolutionized the design of the television. The old days where the television is more than 1 inches thick will be long gone. LED TVs nowadays can be only 1 inch thick! It can be said that these LED TVs produced an eco-friendly, slim product that fits into today's modern lifestyle and have changed the design of television forever.
