You’re at the gym and committed and ready to work out. Yep, sure you are. Are you singularly focused on what you’re doing? If not, then I doubt that first sentence is true. Listen, fitness friends, are you really working out to your maximum potential?
Hold on!! I’ve got some questions for you before you answer that last question:
When you go to the gym are you friendly? With everyone you recognize? Are you having a good long chat with every fitness buddy you encounter during your visit?
Way to work out to your maximum potential there!
And you wonder why working out takes so long. Skip the yakking and get on with it. If you aren’t getting your heart rate up and keeping it up throughout your routine, what’s the point?
Do you strap your cel phone to your belt and have it with you while you workout? Oh right, you don’t want to miss that important call, do you? Or that ever important text message about the party tonight. So when it rings do you answer it? Of course you do!
I see “maximum potential” slipping down the drain now!
Let’s repeat shall we? SKIP THE YAKKING AND GET ON WITH IT!!!!
Do you tune out of your cardio workout by reading a magazine or staring blankly at a TV screen while you’re on the treadmill or stationary bike? You do that because you’re bored, right?
Boredom does NOT equal “Maximum Potential”.
So, tune back in. How can you truly get a good workout if you aren’t even in touch with what your body is doing? If you’re THAT bored on your cardio machine, get off it and do something interesting that keeps you motivated and focused.
Some great ways to train that won’t bore you and will keep you connected to what you are doing are:
Sprints / Interval Training
Jumping Rope
Full Body Weight Training
Bodyweight Training
Playground Training
Circuit Training
Kettlebells
Any of these types of exercises also add some great intensity to your workout which in turn helps build muscle and burn fat at a more accelerated rate.
There!! Now we’re ready to work out to our maximum potential!!!
